On October 28, 2015, The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and Project PA recognized the Upper Moreland Cubby Garden and UM Food Services for their Farm to School efforts! Representatives from PDE, Project PA and local government agencies came to celebrate Upper Moreland's first Farm to School Day at the Elementary Center.
The day started with a presentation by Josh Smith from Frecon Farms. Frecon is a local fruit farm that provides UM Food Services with apples, peaches and pears to serve in the cafeteria. Josh presented to several 1st grade classes on the history and cosmetic makeup of apples!
During lunches, all students were given a free Frecon apple as a treat. The students loved the apples and the special Farm to School Day.
For our special guests, we also gave garden tours and showed off our new Cubby Garden fence that had been built that month. Take a look at the day's events below:
