Lessons

Lessons are scheduled for 30-minutes and are given to small groups of the same or similar instruments once per week during the school day. When a student decides to play a musical instrument, they will learn through a variety  “hands-on” activities.  Lesson plans are standards-based and are specially designed to suit the individual needs and potentials of each student.  Various performing ensembles are offered to enhance the musical experience.

The main goal of in-school instrumental music instruction is to not only instill a sound appreciation for music but also act as a valuable tool to reinforce critical thinking skills and provide learning strategies which will ultimately assist students to become successful independent life-long learners. Instrumental music lessons often mark the beginning of a lifetime of studying and playing a musical instrument.

Lesson Scheduling

  • ½ Hour lesson scheduled weekly.

  • Lessons are scheduled during the school day and all students will be expected to make-up missed school work. Lesson times rotate throughout the day on a seven-week rotation so that students only miss the same class once every seven weeks. Each student is given a lesson card with their lesson times for each rotation.

  • Beginner Band (SYMPHONIC BAND) and Beginner String Ensemble (PRELUDE STRINGS) each rehearse one morning before school per week and will tentatively start early January.  Band and String Ensemble are optional activities.
