Message from the Office of the Superintendent

Dear Upper Moreland Community,

Early in the morning on Thursday, June 6, 2024, the UMPD investigated a threat to our high school made by a student on social media. The threat involved shooting at the school. UMPD determined that the threat was not credible.

Students and staff are safe. All schools will operate normally today.

  • Upper Moreland High School will continue to operate an early dismissal schedule for final exams and dismiss at 11:00am.

  • The fifth grade promotion will continue as scheduled at 12:30pm in the high school auditorium.

Out of an abundance of caution, UMPD will have an increased presence at the high school today. We are grateful to the UMPD and other authorities who prioritize student and staff safety and take any threats seriously.

If your child expresses any fear or anxiety related to what they may have seen on social media, please contact your child’s guidance counselor. Our counselors are ready to support any students who may need to discuss their concerns.

Dr. Sue Elliott
Superintendent of Schools
