🌟 Congrats to UMHS Rotary Student of the Month, Charleis Fayall! Charleis embodies "Service Above Self" through her leadership, academic excellence, & dedication to making a difference. She has taken 8 AP courses over the last three years, serves as the Class of 2025 President, & is the student representative to the school board. Beyond academics, Charleis is a field hockey player, a Diversity Club & CPSEA member, & a founding member of the Teen Senate, promoting mental health awareness. She also interned with State Representative Nancy Guenst & volunteers with Angels in Motion, providing resources to those in need. Charleis will continue her passion for service at Howard University, where she will major in political science. Congratulations, Charleis! 💜🐻 #UMProud

On Friday, UM schools celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by rocking colorful mismatched socks! #UMProud 🧦 @ UMIS: Students watched a video to learn about Down syndrome & the importance of celebrating our differences. They then decorated their own socks and wrote about why being unique is awesome & why kindness matters! 🧦@ UMMS: Sixth grader Chris Ejdaharian took the lead in organizing a sock sale to support the T21 Club of the Delaware Valley, which promotes awareness & inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome in PA, NJ, & DE. Mismatched socks were sold all week to support this great cause! 🧦 @ UMHS: Our Golden Bear statue sported his crazy socks to show support!

History made! 🎷 On Sunday, UMHS's Jazz One took home Best Overall Jazz Band at the SteelStacks High School Jazz Showcase Finals - the first time our musicians have won it ALL! We are thrilled to share that UMHS's Jazz One has been selected as a Finalist for the 2025 SteelStacks Regional High School Jazz Showcase! 🎷 Out of 26 competing bands in the preliminary rounds, UMHS Jazz One is one of seven advancing to the Finals on Sunday, March 23, @ 2 PM. At their preliminary event on Sunday, Jazz One, under the direction of Glenn Cowen, earned a Superior rating and took home multiple awards: 🏅 Best Woodwind Section 🏅 Best Trumpet Section 🏅 Best Rhythm Section 🏅 Best Overall Soloist – Liam Ritter (Guitar) UMHS Jazz Two, under the direction of Kevin Stahl, earned an Excellent rating and was recognized for: 🏅 Best Trombone Soloist – Tyler Brooks 👏 Congrats to our incredibly talented musicians & directors! Last week, UMHS senior Colson Campbell scored his 1,000th career point during the Golden Bears district playoff basketball game win against Marple Newtown! 🏀 Colson became the first Golden Bear on the boys' basketball team to reach this milestone since Keith Kochersperger in 1995. Last week, the Golden Bear Wrestling team at UMHS "Saluted those who Serve" by competing in Army-issued camo singlets supplied by the Pennsylvania National Guard. Before the match, there was a ceremony to recognize veterans & active service personnel in attendance. 🇺🇸 Also at the event, Coach DeFranco was recognized for his 150th career dual win as head coach. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our MLK Day of Service at UMHS yesterday! With over 100 participants—including approximately 65 student volunteers, along with parents and staff—we came together to make 75 handmade blankets for Project Linus, providing comfort to children facing serious illness or trauma. We also collected five boxes of donations for EACH of the food pantries at UMHS, UMMS, & UMEC. Thank you for showing up, giving back, & making an impact on our school community! 💜💛 #UMProud #MLKDayofService

This week, the UMHS Book Club made a special visit to our 3rd-grade classrooms at UMIS! 📚 3rd-graders designed & colored bookmarks, and UMHS students shared their favorite books like "Jumanji" & "Horton Hears a Who!" Afterward, students discussed the stories' themes, messages, & outcomes. Thanks to our UMHS students for inspiring our young readers! 📖 #UMProud

Earlier this month, the UMHS Diversity Club hosted its Kickoff/Kick Back Event, welcoming students back to school with an evening of cultural exchange, food, & fun! The event aimed to foster community & encourage students to share their cultures & learn about each other in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Attendees enjoyed homemade dishes brought in by students & staff, played games led by the high school Physical Education Department, & enjoyed music curated by DJ Li (UMHS Senior, Lianna Adame). It was a great event, bringing students & staff together to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up the UM community! #UMProud

Our schools were filled with PINK today as students & staff came together for the 10th Annual Pink Out, showing support for those impacted by breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️ Big shout out to the UMHS Field Hockey team for leading this initiative & raising money for breast cancer charities through their t-shirt sales! 🙌 Don't forget to join us tonight @ 7 PM as we continue our Pink Out at our football game against Wissahickon! 🐻 🏈 #UMProud #BreastCancerAwareness

Congratulations to the UMHS Marching Unit on their 1st Place finish at the Quakertown "Music in Motion" US Bands competition this past Saturday with their performance of the UMMU's 2024 production entitled, "A World Where We Belong." This was their first competition of the season and they earned a score of 83.7 & swept the specialty awards for Best Music, Best Visual, Best Overall Effect, Best Percussion, & Best Color Guard in the Group V Open division, along with posting the HIGHEST score of all Open Class bands at the show! 🤯 Go UMMU! 🎉

On Constitution Day, 12th-graders in Ms. Loughnane's AP Government class stepped into the shoes of the Founding Fathers! 📜 Each student was assigned a signer of the Constitution and researched their historical figure & the states they represented. Dressed as their characters, students mingled just as the framers might have - discussing the unique challenges & goals of their respective states. After their networking session, students engaged in a college-like seminar to prepare them for next year. They worked independently to answer prompts & then came together to discuss their responses as a group.
